This Volunteer Code of Conduct applies to all volunteers of the Yukon Gymnastic Association and its affiliates.
Volunteers play a critical role in the operation of gymnastics programs in Yukon. Through their activities and responsibilities, the volunteer receives rewards such as personal development, recognition, feedback, a tie to family and community and the personal satisfaction of helping others. In return the volunteer must be expected to conduct their efforts in a manner that will allow the values and goals of this sport organization to be achieved. This is because the manner in which a participant in gymnastics regards the sport is dependent on the leadership and example of its volunteers. The following Code of Conduct has been developed to assist volunteers in achieving a level of behavior that will allow participants to become well-rounded, self-confident persons who can enjoy gymnastics at all levels.
VOLUNTEERS HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO:
1. Treat everyone fairly within the context of their activity, regardless of gender, place of origin, race, sexual orientation, religion, political belief or economic status.
2.Consistently display high personal standards and project a favorable image of their sport and volunteering by:
a) Refraining from public criticism of fellow volunteers, athletes, coaches and officials.
b) Abstaining from the use of tobacco products while in the presence of children.
c) Abstaining from drinking alcoholic beverages when performing volunteer activities.
d) Discouraging the use of alcohol in conjunction with athletic events.
e) Refraining from the use of profane, insulting, harassing or otherwise offensive language in the conduct of his/her duties.
3. Take the personal initiative to learn, respect, communicate and adhere to the rules and regulations established for gymnastics.
4. Treat members of other sport organizations with respect, both in victory and defeat and encourage all participants to act accordingly.
5.Actively encourage all participants to uphold the rules of their sport and the spirit of such rules.
6.Attend to volunteer duties, as directed, in a timely manner.
7.Be aware of the role sport plays in everyone’s lives and respect the pressure that may be placed on all participants including volunteers as they strive to balance the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of their lives.
VOLUNTEERS MUST:
1. Respect the dignity of others and abide by the Harassment Policy adopted by the Yukon Gymnastic Association.
2. Never advocate or condone the use of drugs or other banned performance enhancing substances.
3. Never provide under age participants with alcohol or drugs.
