This Officiating Code of Conduct applies to all officials of the Yukon Gymnastic Association and its affiliates.
The officiating program plays an integral role in the sport of gymnastics. Officials must recognize their impact on competitions, the participants and their fellow officials. The following officiating code of conduct has been developed to aid the officiating program in achieving a level of behavior which will allow all officials to become self confident and proficient.
OFFICIALS HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO:
1. Treat everyone fairly within the context of their activity, regardless of gender, place of origin, race, sexual orientation, religion, political belief or economic status.
2. Score the gymnastics routine based on the performance and not on any prior knowledge of ability, or bias against, the individual.
3. Consistently display high personal standards (?) and project a favorable image of gymnastics by:
a) Refraining from public criticism of participants, coaches, volunteers and fellow officials.
b) Abstaining from the use of tobacco products while in the presence of athletes.
c) Abstaining from drinking alcoholic beverages when officiating and working with officials.
d) Refraining from the use of profane, insulting, harassing or otherwise offensive language in the conduct of his/her duties.
4. Educate and ensure high standards of risk management are maintained.
5. Regularly seek ways of increasing professional development.
OFFICIALS MUST:
1. Abide by the Yukon Gymnastics Association Harassment Policy.
2. Never advocate or condone the use of drugs or other banned substances.
3. Never provide under age participants with alcohol or encourage its use.
