WAG (Women’s Artistic Gymnastics) Judging Structure

WAG Judging Entry Levels

Introduction to Judging: A course may be offered to those who have no gymnastics experience or have a limited knowledge of the sport.

Provincial Level Judges

To become a judge in WAG, an individual must take a clinic and meet requirements with a course, evaluation process, observation time, etc.  As soon as he/she has completed a course and has successfully completed the evaluation process (exams), the participant will be awarded their judging level.

Level 1 Course: This course is designed for people with gymnastic experience either as an athlete or coach and for interested parents who have done some observation and education within their club system. Participants are expected to know the terminology and technique of gymnastics skills performed in the

Provincial 1 level Coaches and athletes with competitive experience may petition the Judging Chair to enter the system by taking a level 2 course.

After the entry levels, a judge will follow the developmental path, from Level 1 to Level 5, then on to National Eligible and National Levels, and finally to the FIG/Brevet level.

National Eligible Judge

To become national eligible, a candidate must meet the following GCG standard:

  • Hold a valid P5 rating at the time of application
  • Have judged a minimum of 5 years within the province prior to application, or
  • supply records from another province to the equivalent of five years experience
  • Hold NCCP Technical Level 3 certification/audit or Modified Level 3 course
  • Apply to WJC for recommendation by June 1st
  • Attend the National Course
  • Write / pass NE entrance exam

Provincial Master Judge

A Provincial Master Judge category has been added for those judges who do not want to become or remain at the National Levels.

  • To become a Provincial Master Judge, the candidate shall:
  • Be a former National or Brevet Judge or have been a P5 judge for a minimum of 3 years
  • Petition to the position by September 15th
  • Attend a P5 clinic every 2 years
